whole thing was such a joke anyway, because we had no idea what we were doing. We were like, 'acting' or whatever - we had no idea - and we watched (Sturridge's) scene and were like, 'Yeah, that's pretty good, that's all right.'"

But Pattinson was lost for words when he realised his scenes had been left on the cutting room floor.

He adds, "I'm sitting there going, 'Ummm... really?' No one had told me that I had been cut out."

The disappointment turned out to be a good thing - Pattinson claims the casting director felt so bad about Vanity Fair, he invited the actor along to auditions for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, leading him to land the role of Cedric Diggory.
