Oscar-nominated filmmaker documents Soulja Boy's rise to fame
Soulja Boy has become the subject of a new documentary by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Peter Spirer.
The director has chronicled the Crank That (Soulja Boy) hitmaker's early life and his sudden rise to fame at the age of 17 in Soulja Boy - The Movie, and he hopes the film will show others the extent of the hip-hop star's talents.
Spirer says, "Soulja Boy is undoubtedly one of the most creative, entrepreneurial hip-hop artists I have ever dealt with...
"I think sometimes the press, the public and his peers dismiss him due to lack of understanding or jealousy, and that’s where I hope my film comes in - a straight forward intimate look at a talented young man."
Spirer is known for documentaries such as Notorious B.I.G. Bigger Than Life and Tupac Shakur: Thug Angel.
Soulja Boy - The Movie will be released in October (11).
