One Direction fans injured in Peru concert crush
Nearly 50 One Direction fans received emergency medical treatment after they were crushed at the band's gig in Peru on Sunday (27Apr14).
The British/Irish pop group is currently touring South America and they headed to the Peruvian capital Lima on Sunday to play for thousands of fans.
During the show, bandmembers Niall Horan and Liam Payne were caught
on film telling revellers in front of the stage to move back or
they would have to stop the concert over safety concerns.
Fans continued to move closer to their idols, resulting in a crush
which injured 47 youngsters.
Mario Cassareto, head of Peru's volunteer fire service, told a
local radio station, "We treated 47 children with the first stages
of asphyxia. Everything is under control. We have nothing to be
ashamed of, we've handled the situation well.
"We put in place a second evacuation plan so that the younger fans
were not affected. We're working with the police and the security
companies."
Before the concert, Payne posted a picture on Twitter.com showing
what seemed to be thousands of fans lining the street outside his
hotel.
He wrote, "Honestly you guys are gunna (sic) set me off again Lima
that (welcome) was an overwhelming experience something I'll
remember forever... It's so crazy I feel like I haven't done enough
to deserve that kind of appreciation gunna (sic) spend my day in a
state of shock love you guys."
