Odd Future banned from New Zealand
Controversial rap group Odd Future have been banned from New Zealand.
The hip-hop collective was set to play a show at the Rapture festival in Auckland this weekend (15-16Feb14) but their entry visas were revoked hours before they were due to land in the country.
New Zealand immigration bosses have issued a statement quoting the
country's legislation which allows entry to be denied "where there
is reason to believe there is, or is likely to be, a threat or risk
to public order or the public interest".
In 2011, the group was dropped from the Auckland leg of the
travelling Big Day Out festival amid complaints some of their
lyrics are homophobic, and Odd Future star Tyler, The Creator is
disappointed with the latest snub.
In a post on Twitter.com, he writes, "OF is banned from New
Zealand, again. They said we were 'terrorist threats and bad for
the society' or whatever. Sick... love NZ tho (sic)."
