Nicole Scherzinger wept when Simon Cowell offered her a place on The X Factor judging panel as she relished the chance to help a youngster find fame.
The former Pussycat Dolls star was initially lined up to host the new version of the talent contest when it launched earlier this year but was bounced into a mentor's role following the shock departure of Cheryl Cole.
And she's confessed she was overcome with emotion when Cowell offered her promotion, as it gave her the chance to help a young hopeful climb the industry ladder.
Scherzinger tells British TV show This Morning, "I don't know how everything happened in the end. I just know that Simon asked me to be a host and then asked me to be a judge, and when he did I cried. To be able to have the opportunity to be a voice and to be of service like that to the contestants, it felt like maybe that's where I could be better used."
