Nick Jonas embarrassed by Ed Hardy fashion phase

Pop star Nick Jonas cringes whenever he is reminded of his teenage love for Ed Hardy clothing, branding the fashion phase "dark times".

The Jealous hitmaker and his older sibling Joe were both big fans of the tattoo-inspired designs by Christian Audigier in the early days of their band the Jonas Brothers, but it's a period of his style journey he would rather forget.

Asked about his biggest fashion regret, Nick tells Racked.com, "I mean, I think we all had an Ed Hardy phase, where you had the hat, and the T-shirt, and the shoes - and the jeans, if you were lucky! Head to toe."

"Dark times," he laughs, before reflecting, "But we gotta go through the fire to come out knowing what to wear without looking insane."

Nowadays, Nick, who impressed in a Ralph Lauren tuxedo at the recent Met Gala in New York City, has become known for his ability to dress up while still keeping his look casual, and he credits his stylist, Avo Yermagyan, who also works with Joe Jonas and pal Demi Lovato, with his fashion transformation: "I think it's about finding what you're comfortable and confident in," he shares, "and, for me, finding a great stylist to work with who pulls things I really like and can get a story together, in a sense."

His appreciation for good clothing has inspired Nick to start thinking about one day trying his own hand at designing clothing: "I really care about fashion, and I've gotten to learn a lot about it," he says. "And the more I learn, the more I want to learn - maybe to a point one day where I can either be involved in a campaign in some capacity, or even design something myself. We'll see!"

In the meantime, Nick has put his creativity to the test with a new line of headphones with audio firm Altec Lansing.

"I was approached by Altec Lansing a few years ago, and I got familiar with the product and just fell in love with it - thought it sounded great," he explains of the new venture. "And for some reason they let me design this headphone collection! I think it's the perfect combination of great quality and great sound (that also) looks sleek and sexy. There's a rose gold, and the black leather is my favorite."
