Nelly Furtado makes charity donation with Gaddafi cash

Written by . Published: September 29 2011

The $1 million singer Nelly Furtado has donated to charity organization Free The Children came from the cash she received for performing at a party for the notorious Gaddafi family.

The Canadian pop star pledged the cash she received for a 45 minute show in Italy to charity earlier this year (11) after Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi refused to step down amid growing rebellion in the Middle East.

As the world's leaders imposed strict sanctions on Gaddafi's Libya in the hope of ending the defiant dictator's reign and the country's unrest, the Canadian singer insisted she wanted no association with him.

And that meant giving away the cash she received in 2007.

The fee will now benefit Free the Children and her donation will go toward building a girls' school in Kenya.

Usher, Mariah Carey and Beyonce also came under fire for accepting high fees for performing at Gaddafi functions.
