Naya Rivera: 'Breast implants are the best money I've spent'

Naya Rivera’s decision to get breast implants is the "best $8,000” she’s ever spent.

The former Glee star has revealed that she saved up her earnings from working on TV programs like The Royal Family and Family Matters to gift herself a boob job when she turned 18.

While her parents did not approve of her choice to undergo plastic surgery at the time, she’s never second guessed herself and believes the money was well worth the investment.

“People have a lot of opinions about plastic surgery, but more than ten years after I got my boobs, they still make me happy when I look in the mirror,” she said in an extract of her memoir Sorry Not Sorry, published on People.com. “It might have even been the best $8,000 I've ever spent.”

The 29-year-old added that her choice to have her breasts enlarged was not because she was seeking to impress men but due to suffering from a serious lack of confidence. Prior to the surgery, Naya stuffed her bra with napkins to create the illusion of a fuller chest.

"My new boobs were a confidence thing, not a sexual thing," she wrote, adding that her classmates certainly took notice of new curves following the procedure. "As soon as I went back to school, (the boys) all practically fell over themselves rushing to see who could hold the door open for me.

In a previously published extract from her forthcoming book, Naya revealed she battled anorexia as a teenager and underwent an abortion in late 2010, just weeks after breaking up with actor Ryan Dorsey, in order to concentrate on her blossoming career.

While it was a difficult time for the star, she hopes sharing details of her own personal life will encourage others to seek help and advice.

"It was very scary to open up about everything," said of revealing the abortion. "It's not something a lot of people talk about, but I think they should. I know some people might read it and say, 'What the hell?' But I hope someone out there gets something out of it."

Naya is now happily married to Ryan, with whom she has an 11-month-old son Josey.

Her memoir Sorry Not Sorry goes on sale on 13 September (16).
