The Wanted singer Nathan Sykes has reached out to the sister of a teacher who was killed in the Connecticut school massacre on 14 December (12).

The British pop star took to his Twitter.com page on 23 December (12) to wish a happy birthday to Carlee Soto, a fan of his band who lost her older sibling Victoria when suspected gunman Adam Lanza opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown.

He tweeted, "Sending all my love to Carlee for your birthday! You, Vicki and your family are such an inspiration. Hope you have a lovely day."

Carlee told Sykes his message was the ultimate gift but he went one step further to make her day special by inviting her to meet The Wanted in New York City, adding, "Next time we are in NYC I have arranged for you to come and hang out with us if you are up for that? Would be lovely to see ya (sic)."

Carlee later tweeted, "This birthday may not be the same without Vicki, but I know my big sissy (sic) is looking down at me smiling, wishing me a happy birthday."

Victoria, 27, was hailed a heroine after it emerged she died while attempting to shield her young students during the shootings.

Folk legend Paul Simon paid his respects to Victoria by playing her favourite song The Sound of Silence at her funeral on 19 December (12).
