Miley Cyrus is a nervous wreck before live performances

Pop superstar Miley Cyrus is always "freaking out" internally before she has to hit the stage.

The Wrecking Ball hitmaker shot to fame on Disney show Hannah Montana in 2006, when she was just a teenager, and she has been performing as a singer and actress ever since.

Despite her experience in the spotlight, Miley, who has become known for her outlandish persona in recent years, admits she fears having a panic attack onstage because her anxiety has only gotten worse with age.

"I'm a little bit of a nervous person even though I try to keep it cool, but I'm actually always kind of freaking out at all times," she confessed to radio host Elvis Duran. "I have to always remember that my feet are on the ground and I just have to keep singing, 'cause when I stop, that's when I panic."

The star, now 24, added, "Growing up in this industry, people always assume that I really like attention, but when you're younger you're much more fearless. As time goes on, I get more and more weird when things are all about me."

Miley's heightened sense of anxiety may also be down to her recent decision to go completely sober and quit drinking and smoking marijuana to clear her head and focus on her new music.

She first told Billboard magazine about her new healthy outlook earlier this month (May17), and last week (12May17), Miley admitted she has already noticed some big physical changes now she is no longer getting high.

"I've got a lot of energy," she noted during an interview with SiriusXM. "Look at my eyes, look at how white they are! They're clear and open and I can see and all that."
