Miley Cyrus defends teenage engagement
Miley Cyrus has defended her decision to get engaged at just 19 years old.
The former Hannah Montana star stunned fans in June (12) by announcing she is heading down the aisle with Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, and now she has hit back at critics who say the couple is too young to marry.
She tells Marie Claire, "Life is too short not to be with the
person you want to be with. I don't really care about the wedding
or the piece of paper as much as I do the promise we've made to
each other. And we want to have a long engagement."
Cyrus admits it was a "complete surprise" when 22-year-old
Hemsworth popped the question, but insists she loves her antique
diamond engagement ring.
She adds, "I just love that it's old and has a story... and I'm
happy because it doesn't look like anything else I wear."
