Miley Cyrus' Boston fans launch petition over cancelled gig

Miley Cyrus is facing demands to play a free show in Boston, Massachusetts after cancelling her appearance at the city's Jingle Ball concert last weekend (14Dec13).

The singer was one of the headline acts due to perform during the festive show at Boston's TD Garden venue, but she pulled out at the last minute after a snow storm left her stranded at an airport in New Jersey.

She apologised for the cancellation and blamed it on the bad weather, but disgruntled fans who paid hundreds of dollars for tickets to see Cyrus have now launched a petition urging her to play a free show in the area.

The petition, posted on Change.org, suggests gig-goers were not told about Cyrus' no-show until after the final act came off stage, and they haven't been allowed to claim refunds, so they want the singer to return to Boston to make good on her promise to perform there.

It reads, "Every other act who performed at the New York Jingle Ball the night before made it to Boston. Why did Miley not plan for the snow and leave earlier? It seems the other acts did just that... She could have taken a car or a train if the airport was shut down... We paid to see Miley, who was headlining the show! If not a refund then Kiss (organising radio station KISS 108FM) should organise a free Miley concert for Jingle Ball ticket holders."

The petition has so far drawn more than 120 signatures, and Mary Menna, of the station's parent company Clear Channel Communications, reveals organisers are now in talks with Cyrus' management and record label about what can be done.

She tells the Boston Herald newspaper, "She (Cyrus) feels terrible that she didn't make it. Unfortunately, there was bad weather. It's New England and we've dealt with these kinds of issues before. But due to the nature of what a superstar she is, this one is bigger. Her band was there, her dancers were there, every indication was that things were running smoothly. We don't like to disappoint our listeners."
