Michelle Williams in tears over relationship with father

Michelle Williams fought back tears as she opened up about her rocky relationship with her dad in a new interview, revealing she doesn't speak to him anymore.

The My Week With Marilyn star legally emancipated herself from her parents Carla and Larry when she was just 15 years old, so she could quit studying with a tutor and instead begin working adult hours as an actress.

However, Williams admits setting up home in a Los Angeles apartment all alone was not her brightest idea - because she was "very, very lonely" and uncomfortable, sleeping on "an egg crate for a mattress".

During an interview with GQ magazine, she explains, "It was just stupid. I didn't know what I was taking on. I don't think things through very often - I don't project into the future about how a situation will turn out. Even the simplest things, I'm guilty of making really bad decisions a lot of the time. In my work it's a capacity that's served me well, but in my life it can be a problem."

The star's parents split when Williams was 24 and she confesses her relationship with her dad has deteriorated ever since: "We're not in contact at the moment... but maybe that will change."

The mere mention of her father was too much Williams.

Breaking down in tears, she says, "I wasn't expecting this. I thought I'd gotten so good at (hiding) this recently. I'm like, 'Ah, I can do this.' Goddammit, I thought I'd gotten better at it."
