A statement from executive producers and creators of the show, Robert and Michelle King, reads, "We're absolutely thrilled that Michael has agreed to play this role. His intelligence as an actor, combined with his incredible comic timing will really bring this smart, cynical lawyer to life."

Fox's last TV stint came last year (09) when he played a drug-abusing paraplegic on Denis Leary's hit drama series Rescue Me.

He told USA Today at the time: "It's a measure of how screwed up they are that they would hire me to play a paralyzed guy. I'm the opposite of a paralyzed guy. One of the reasons I don't act that much now is that my first job is to act like I'm not dealing with the things I'm dealing with."

The Good Wife's second season premieres next month (28Sep10).
