Mariah Carey: 'The goal is to marry this year'

Mariah Carey wants to tie the knot this year (16).

The singer made her comments in an interview with Entertainment Tonight special correspondent Sharon Osbourne on Monday in Las Vegas where the pop superstar is back at Caesars Palace for the fourth leg of her #1 to Infinity residency.

Talk soon turned to the Fantasy singer's wedding plans to her fiancé, Australian billionaire James Packer, 48. The couple got engaged in January, after Packer proposed with a 35-carat diamond ring worth a reported $8 million.

However, when questioned, 46-year-old Mariah seemed unsure if the wedding will happen this year because of her busy schedule.

When Sharon asked: "So do you think that you've got time this year...", Mariah responded, "... to do that? I mean, that's the goal." And she cautioned, "... but there's a lot on my plate."

Mariah's comments came after it was revealed ex-husband Nick Cannon is reportedly refusing to sign off on the divorce. The couple split in 2014 after six years of marriage. However, according to a report on TMZ.com, America's Got Talent host Nick has been taking his time to sign the papers which would make their divorce final, despite being the one who originally filed court documents to end the couple's marriage in December, 2014. Later that month, a property settlement was agreed, with the pair also successfully negotiating the terms of joint custody of their children.

Mariah has allegedly been trying to get Nick to sign off on the papers for almost a year, but sources claim he is refusing to put pen to paper as he does not want the marriage to end.

Despite this, the We Belong Together singer seemed upbeat as she chatted about her new love. After splitting from Nick, the mother-of-two explained she wasn't "on the prowl" for a new man when she met James.

"We were talking and having a good time and I was like, 'This guy is really fun.' So it was nice," she shared.

The singer will soon be sharing a lot more of herself as her family will be the subject of the highly anticipated E! documentary series Mariah's World.

She gave a a further insight into her diva persona - or played up to it - when Sharon broached the subject of grocery stores, with Mariah giving an incredulous reason as to why she refuses to enter them.

"It's pretty bad lighting in the grocery store," she explained. "Have you noticed it's fluorescent lighting?"

Mariah’s World is set to premiere from 19 June (16).
