Mariah Carey sends funeral tribute to Manchester terror attack victim

Mariah Carey honored a fan killed in the recent Manchester terror attack by sending his family an emotional video message, which was played at his funeral on Friday (30Jun17).

Martyn Hett, 29, was one of 22 people who died when a terrorist detonated an explosive device outside an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England on 22 May (17).

He was a huge fan of the Dream Lover singer, who he had previously met, and Mariah remembered the devotee in a touching video, which was aired at his memorial in Stockport, England on Friday (30Jun17).

Addressing his "spirit" she said, "I just wanted to say that I love you and I'm so happy we got the chance to meet. I know that you're shining down on us from heaven and I'm happy that all your family and friends could gather together in honor of you."

Michelle McManus, a Scottish singer who won British TV contest Pop Idol in 2003, performed at the service.

She and Martyn became friends due to his devotion to her music, and he once traveled on a bus for 24 hours to get to one of her gigs.

According to The Huffington Post Michelle told mourners,"I'm just someone who met Martyn because he was so kind to me. Kindness is really underrated, I think, in this world today. And that's what Martyn was. For the short time I knew Martyn, those few years, I'll be forever grateful."

Martyn's coffin was decorated with the logo from his favorite TV show, British soap opera Coronation Street, and several of its stars attended the service.

Hundreds turned up at the funeral after his parents extended an open invitation to the public, and the service was broadcast to mourners who couldn't fit in the hall on TV screens outside.

BBC Radio One DJ Nick Grimshaw and the comedian Jason Manford also sent their own video messages.

A small private service was held for friends and family after the public memorial ended.
