Hip-hop duo Macklemore + Ryan Lewis have been named the most successful songwriters of 2013 in the U.K.

A survey conducted by Music Week magazine hails the Seattle-based duo as the most successful songwriters of the year based on their smash hits Thrift Shop, Can't Hold Us and Same Love, which racked up total sales figures of 1.6 million.

The chart was calculated by looking at how much credit songwriters were awarded for the 100 biggest selling tracks of the year, and Macklemore and Lewis landed the top spot ahead of big names such as Pharrell Williams, Bruno Mars and Ryan Tedder.

Williams took the number two place thanks to his part in writing Robin Thicke's controversial hit Blurred Lines and his own chart-topping single Happy, while Mars was ranked third for his role in the trio of writers known as The Smeezingtons, who were behind hits including When I Was Your Man and Locked Out Of Heaven.

Tedder took fourth place thanks to the success of his band OneRepublic's single Counting Stars and his part in writing Ellie Goulding's single Burn, and singer/songwriter Passenger was the only Brit to make it into the top five thanks to his track Let Her Go, which sold more than one million copies.
