M.I.A. banned from taking son out of U.S.
Rapper M.I.A. has been banned by a court from taking her son out of the U.S. after the child's father successfully applied for a restraining order.
The Paper Planes hitmaker has been embroiled in a child custody battle with her ex-fiance, wealthy music mogul Benjamin Bronfman, over their four-year-old son Ikhyd following their split last year (12).
Bronfman filed documents at Kings County Court in New York after
M.I.A. allegedly threatened to take their son back to her native
London, and on Wednesday (13Mar13) she was served with legal
paperwork preventing her from leaving the country with the boy.
A source tells the New York Post gossip column Page Six, "M.I.A.
has been texting and calling Ben, saying she will take their son to
London, even though they both live in Brooklyn and the child goes
to school there. Ben filed a motion for a temporary restraining
order preventing her from taking their son to the U.K. against his
wishes."
M.I.A. took to Twitter.com on Wednesday (13Mar13) to post a series
of messages about the ongoing legal battle, suggesting her ex and
his family were attempting to gain full custody of her son.
