Ludacris almost turned down his critically-acclaimed role in hit film Hustle + Flow - because he didn't want to play a rapper. The hitmaker was reluctant to play Skinny Black in the 2005 film - because he didn't think it was an acting role for him. He explains, "If I'm already a rapper and I'm acting, that's not acting if I'm playing another rapper. "(Director) John Singleton kept begging me to do the role and I kept telling him no... and then he told me to read the script and understand the rapper (in the film) is not necessarily like my personality. "Once I read th e script, I fell in love with the script and I knew what it was gonna be. It got some Oscar nominations and it did what it had to do."
