Lorde clarifies Nicki Minaj and Drake's music criticism

Lorde has insisted she is a big fan of fellow stars Nicki Minaj and Drake after she was criticized for confessing she struggles to relate to their music.

The 17 year old became a worldwide sensation with her track Royals, a song in which she compares her middle-class life to those of the rich and famous.

In a recent sit-down with Interview magazine, she talked about the origins of the song, revealing she was inspired by stars such as Minaj and Drake who have an abundance of wealth she could never dream of.

Lorde explained, "Around the middle of last year I started listening to a lot of rap, like Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as pop singers like Lana Del Rey. They all sing about such opulence, stuff that just didn't relate to me - or anyone that I knew. I began thinking, 'How are we listening to this? It's completely irrelevant.'"

After the publication hit shelves, the teen came under fire for her remarks, but she took to Twitter.com on Tuesday (26Nov13) to clear the air.

She writes, "I have nothing but love and admiration for both Nicki and Drake (have said this x1000)... Just because their songs aren't my reality (being 17 and from Auckland) doesn't mean I don't admire their musicianship and careers!"

It isn't the first time Lorde has been in the middle of a purported feud with a fellow singer. In October (13), she admitted she regrets calling Taylor Swift an unrealistic role model for girls, insisting she just wanted to point out the importance placed on physical perfection in the music industry.
