Lindsay Lohan faces a return to jail if Santa Monica, California investigators can prove she lied to officials about her role in a June (12) traffic accident.
The troubled actress told police she was not behind the wheel of her Porsche, which was totalled after a collision with a trailer on the Pacific Coast Highway - but the driver of the other vehicle insists she was.
And now she could face charges from prosecutors, which will almost definitely put her back behind bars for violation of her 2011 parole for shoplifting.
Police insiders tell the Los Angeles Times that investigators have found evidence suggesting Lohan lied when she told authorities that she was not behind the wheel of her vehicle at the time of the accident.
Officials at the Santa Monica City Attorney's office are expected to take action over the case before the end of the week (ends09Nov12).
Lohan did not suffer any major injuries in the crash and returned to the set of her TV movie Liz & Dick the same day.
