Lily Allen starts fundraising page for cancer-stricken godfather

British pop star Lily Allen has set up an online charity fundraising page in honor of her godfather, who was diagnosed with cancer last year (13).

The singer launched the drive on crowdsourcing website Gofundme.com on Friday (24Jan14) to bring in donations for U.K. charity Cancer Research UK.

Allen reveals she set the page up as a nod to her godfather, producer and musician Roger Pomphrey, who is currently battling the deadly disease.

In a message posted on the site, she writes, "As you may have heard... Roger Pomphrey is fighting cancer from intensive care in London, it would mean the world to him if you were to donate money some of which we will pass on to Cancer Research, and some of which we will pass on to Tom, his 20 year old son who has been Roger's carer since he was diagnosed late last year (sic). Dig in to your pockets please, for this worthy cause."

The first person to donate was Queens of Noize DJ Mairead Nash, who transferred $32 .
