Lena Dunham rushed to hospital during Met Gala - report

Lena Dunham was reportedly rushed to hospital during the Met Gala on Monday night (01May17).

The 30-year-old actress was just one of the celebrities who walked the blue and cream carpet at the star-studded event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Lena looked chic and kooky as she posed for photographers in her custom Elizabeth Kennedy gown, but according to the New York Post's gossip column Page Six, she had to take herself from the event to the emergency room.

The outlet reports that after suffering a "medical issue", Lena headed to the emergency room, but was released "after a series of tests".

It is understood that the situation stemmed from Lena's battle with endometriosis, a disorder which occurs when tissue grows outside of the uterus. A representative for the actress had no comment.

The actress has been very open about her struggles against the disease, and last month told fans that after a fifth surgical procedure she was now endometriosis-free.

"My surgery went off without a hitch,” she wrote. “There was no endometriosis left. Between my surgeries and hormonal intervention, I was disease-free. That doesn’t mean it can never return, but for now, once my sutures have been removed and my bruises have changed... I will be healthy.”

Lena is also proud of the "endo scars" she has acquired through her numerous operations, showing them off by wearing a bikini on a recent holiday.

The Girls star's appearance at the Met Gala came as something of a surprise to her millions of fans, considering her previous experience at the 2016 event.

"I was sitting next to (athlete) Odell Beckham Jr., and it was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards... It wasn’t mean - he just seemed confused,” she wrote in her Lenny newsletter after last year's bash.

“The vibe was very much like, ‘Do I want to f--k it? Is it wearing a … yep, it’s wearing a tuxedo. I’m going to go back to my cell phone.’ It was like we were forced to be together, and he literally was scrolling Instagram rather than have to look at a woman in a bow tie."

Lena later apologized for her remarks.
