Lena Dunham honors skateboarding icon with new tattoo

Lena Dunham has paid tribute to an inspirational female skateboarder in the latest addition to her tattoo collection.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday night (15Oct16), the Girls star revealed she had visited tattoo artist and friend Robert Bonhomme at Brooklyn Tattoo for some new body art.

In the photos posted, Lena shared that she had been inked with a picture of groundbreaking skateboarder Laura Thornhill Caswell, as inspired by the work of artist Langley Fox.

“He added this new one, a @langleyfox illustration of living legend @laurathornhillcaswell. Cuz sometimes I really need a reminder that we came here to rip s**t up,” she captioned the snap.

Laura first gained notoriety in 1975 at the age of 13 and went on to become the first female skater to get a board named after her and a full feature interview in Skateboarder magazine.

"Speechless," Laura wrote on her own Instagram page in response to Lena’s tribute.

In a caption for the photo, Lena also went on to add, “Plz note she's riding one of my Endo scars.”

The 30-year-old star has been open about her battle with endometriosis, a condition where tissue that behaves like the lining of the womb is found outside the uterus. She underwent surgery to treat the chronic condition in March (16), which left small red scars across her waist.

In another sentimental inking, Lena also had Robert tattoo her with the words The Odeon, in reference to the famed diner in New York, which has been a mainstay of the city since 1980.

"And because I'm an officially deranged daughter of TriBeCa (New York neighborhood), the Odeon neon sign now lives on my a** for life," she wrote alongside a photo of the neon orange tattoo.

While at the tattoo parlor Robert also touched up her existing tattoos of Ferdinand The Bull, inspired by the central character in kid's novel The Story of Ferdinand, on her right arm, as well as children’s book character Eloise, which is placed on her lower back.

"Very satisfying evening getting my (decade old!) tats touched up by my good friend@rbrtbnhm at Brooklyn Tattoo,” she shared.

Making up her tattoo collection, Lena has a Yorkshire terrier inked on her rib cage, two houses inked on her upper back and the word “staunch” written on her wrist.
