Lena Dunham holding off wedding until gay marriage is legal in all states
Actress Lena Dunham and her rocker boyfriend Jack Antonoff insist they won't wed until gay marriage is legal in all 50 states.
The Girls star and fun. drummer Antonoff have been dating since 2012, and despite recent rumours suggesting he popped the question, Dunham insists they are not tying the knot until the law allows gay people to get married in every state.
In an interview with comedienne Ellen DeGeneres on Monday
(09Mar15), she explained, "I had never thought about marriage that
much, but it was something that was really important to Jack at an
early age, and my sister's gay.
"Of course I don't judge anyone who chooses to get married, but the
idea of having a celebration that can't be fully shared among all
of the people in my life and all of the people that we love, just
doesn't really feel like a celebration at all."
And Dunham jokes that Antonoff, who funded gay rights organisation
The Ally Coalition with his sister Rachel and his fun. bandmates,
will be stuck with her the rest of their life once gay marriage
does become legal across the country.
She adds, "What's gonna happen when it's real and he has to marry
me? It's gonna be a a disaster."
Dunham and Antonoff join the likes of other celebrity couples who
vowed to put off marriage until the law changes, including Kristen
Bell and Dax Shepard and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Both couples have exchanged vows.
