Lena Dunham hitting the road for Lenny Letter tour

Lena Dunham is heading out on the road this summer (17) for a tour inspired by her popular Lenny Letter newsletter.

The Girls actress and creator is launching a six-city tour with Lenny Letter co-founder Jenni Konner on 31 May (17) in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dunham was inspired to create The Lenny: America IRL trek following the election of controversial President Donald Trump last year (16).

"We really wanted to try to be a part of, in our own small way, healing the very big divide that exists in our country right now," she says. "We're trying to look beyond the coastal states and really think about connecting to women, to people, in the middle of the country."

The tour, which will hit cities in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Kentucky, will feature music, comedy, and spoken word performances, and Dunham explains the shows will lean more towards her liberal political views, but she invites women from different political backgrounds to attend.

"It's political, but we're also trying to bring up issues that you can't really argue with," she adds. "For example, a portion of our proceeds are going toward arts education organizations for girls in every city. People have a lot of really split opinions on social politics, but you basically have to be a mustache-twirling villain to have a problem with girls receiving arts education."

In addition to the tour, Dunham and Konner are also developing a Lenny Letter docu-series with network HBO. They will also launch a book imprint in August (17), according to the New York Post's Page Six.

"It's all about trying to expand the way that women can have access to information that cracks their brains open," she continues. "Jenni's and my entire ethos is really built around relationships between women (sic)."
