Lena Dunham was hit on by former New York Mets player Lenny Dykstra after admitting on Twitter that baseball stars arouse her.

The 31-year-old actress, who is in a relationship with musician Jack Antonoff, seems to make the revelation out of nowhere when she tweeted on Thursday night (07Sep17): "I'm horny for baseball players! Wow!"

Sportsman Dykstra was quick to respond to the tweet, replying: "DM me".

Dykstra, 54, is a former Major League Baseball center fielder who played for the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies. He also earned himself a reputation as something of a bad boy during his time in the sports industry, with his most recent scandal coming when he allegedly trashed a hotel room and tried to make off with the bedsheets, towels and even the receptionist's sunglasses.

His response to Dunham's tweet caused a sensation among fans, who were quick to urge the duo to get together. Dykstra retweeted hordes of messages from fans encouraging a relationship, with one sharing a snap of Marilyn Monroe and her baseball playing ex-husband Joe DiMaggio and writing: "Finally, a return to the glamour of baseball + Hollywood's power couples."

His retweeting also caught the attention of Dunham, whose Twitter handle was mentioned in the majority of the messages.

"You guys I'm being simultaneously trolled & seduced by @LennyDykstra this day has gotten really f**king weird," she tweeted.

As Thursday night drew to a close, the actress commented: "Excited about my new stalker @LennyDykstra! Unfortunately he seems to have underestimated my powers. Nite (sic) baseball fans, what a wild ride."

Clearly unwilling to let the flirtation go, Dykstra replied: "If you can't get to sleep after all this excitement, I recommend a cold shower."

But the ever cutting Dunham hit back: "I'm already asleep, grandpa", complete with an old man emoji.
