Lena Dunham given her own book publishing imprint
Actress Lena Dunham has been given her own book publishing imprint with Random House.
The Girls writer, director and creator first teamed up with publishing company to release her 2014 autobiographical book Not That Kind of Girl, and now they are continuing their professional relationship by creating the imprint Lenny.
Lena and Girls producer Jenni Konner, who co-created the feminist
newsletter Lenny Letter last year (15), will help select fiction
and nonfiction titles written by "exciting, emerging voices" for
publication.
"While we love our home on the Internet, Jenni and I are both
voracious readers (of books and book reviews) who are constantly
trading titles and allowing them to stir us creatively," Lena
explained. to Buzzfeed.com.
"Our friendship often doubles as a book club... We feel like the
Lenny voice lends itself to a diverse list of authors and we are so
excited to work with Random House – they get our mission
completely.
"Lenny books will aspire to push the ball forward on the issues
that matter to our audience, with wit and style. We hope to see
them sticking out of purses and riding public transportation
everywhere."
A representative for Random House said the company will use Lena
and Jenni's "eye for talent and love of books" to publish titles
which will be "varied, compelling, and voice-driven".
The Lenny Letter hit the spotlight in October (15) when Jennifer
Lawrence wrote a candid essay explaining how she felt when she
discovered she was paid less than her male American Hustle
co-stars.
Lena also used the newsletter to reveal her struggle with
endometriosis in November (15). She had to undergo surgery in March
(16) for a ruptured ovarian cyst caused by the chronic
gynaecological condition.
