Kristen Stewart: 'Unhappy with gender pay gap? Do something!'

Kristen Stewart thinks women should do something rather than "sitting around and complaining" about gender equality in Hollywood.

The 25-year-old actress is known for her outspoken nature and has now lent her opinion to the ongoing topic of females being paid less than men in the movie industry. Stars such as Jennifer Lawrence and Patricia Arquette have shared their outrage at how unfair it is, but Kristen doesn't quite share their outlook.

"Instead of sitting around and complaining about that, do something," she explains in a video for Variety. "Go write something, go do something.

"And that's easy to say. Like, f**k, it's hard to get movies made. It's a huge luxury. Who gets to just make movies? But that subject is just so prevalently everywhere right now, and it's boring."

Kristen feels no need to complain about this issue as she's aware of how lucky she is, and that she always has projects in front of her. She points out that it's a narrow view and reasoned that males make more money because their movies make more.

The Twilight star didn't come to this opinion alone though and credits her mother Jules Mann-Stewart, a script supervisor who has dipped her toe into directing, for pointing her in the right direction.

"My mom's an artist, she's a painter, she's a script supervisor as well, so when she wasn't working, she was making something, she was never bored," Kristen explained.

Another famous female not letting the topic take over her life is Kate Winslet, who has been acting since the early '90s. She previously shocked people by saying that discussing money is "vulgar", and she won't add fuel to the flame.

"I have never concerned myself with monetary matters," she told Deadline. "I almost feel like I can’t comment on other people’s comments, but I admire people who publicly stand up for themselves.

"I’ve never been in the situation where I feel the need to make those types of comments. I’m fortunate. I have a nice life and career and I’m blessed to be 40 years old and still doing it."
