Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, and Dj Khaled lead the nominees at this year's (17) Bet Hip Hop Awards with nine nods each.

The trio are up against each other in multiple categories including single of the year, best hip-hop video, hustler, and MVP of the year at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) network prizegiving, according to Billboard.com.

Newcomer Cardi's astonishing nine nominations come less than a year after she signed her first record deal.

She will also take on Playboi Carti, Amine, Kodak Black and Tee Grizzley in the best new hip-hop artist category.

JAY-Z and Chance the Rapper have five nominations each and will battle it out for lyricist of the year as well as vying with Kendrick, Cardi and Khaled for the MVP and hustler prizes.

Future and band Migos earned four nods apiece, and have records nominated for album of the year alongside Khaled, Kendrick, and JAY's collections.

The ceremony is to move from Atlanta, Georgia to Miami, Florida this year (17) and will be held at The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater on 6 October (17).

As the region was recently hit by Hurricane Irma, bosses at the network are launching their own Hip Hop for Hurricane Relief campaign raising funds for those impacted by the storm.

"While BET is extremely excited to bring the BET Hip Hop Awards to Miami, we remain sensitive to the millions of victims affected by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey," BET interim head of programming Connie Orlando said in a statement to Billboard.

"Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with those who are facing the impact of this catastrophic storm. As a network, we are committed to offering our full support during this most devastating time."

The ceremony will be broadcast on the BET Network on 10 October (17).
