Ke$ha defends herself after axed Malaysian show

Ke$Ha was banned from performing a concert in Malaysia on Saturday (26Oct13) after officials declared the pop star too risque for fans in the conservative country.

The TiK ToK singer's gig at a Kuala Lumpur stadium was cancelled at the last minute, with authorities insisting her performance would "hurt cultural and religious sensitivities" in the Muslim-majority nation.

Ke$ha took to Twitter.com to defend herself, telling followers she would have been put behind bars for going ahead with the show.

She tweeted, "To be clear. I did NOT cancel. I was not allowed to play. And then I was going to play anyways and was threatened with imprisonment."

She later added, "Yesterday was hard for me... I just wanna share my music and life with you guys."

Promoters at Livescape Asia reveal Ke$ha had agreed to adjust her lyrics and tone down her racy wardrobe to comply with Malaysia's strict regulations.

In a statement, firm bosses explained, "Livescape would... like to go on record to applaud and thank Ke$ha and her team for working closely with us and having agreed to modify the show to suit the Malaysian culture and sensitivities."

Other stars have previously run into trouble over gigs in Malaysia, including Rihanna and Black Eyed Peas star Fergie, who were ordered to cover up and tone down their raunchy routines, and Beyoncé, who cancelled shows in the country in 2007 and 2009 after reportedly falling foul of Malaysia's conservative Muslim groups.
