Katy Perry thrilled pupils at a girls' school in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday (13Nov14) by handing over a cash prize to boost the facility's performing arts department and dispensing advice to the youngsters.

Perry handed over a cheque for $8,771 to bosses of Loreto Mandeville Hall after declaring the school the winner of a competition in which students were asked to make a video to demonstrate their creativity.

The Firework hitmaker, who is currently on tour Down Under, visited the school to make the contribution and she delighted pupils by holding a question-and-answer session with them, handing out advice and urging them to focus on their studies.

She told the youngsters, "Don't waste too much time thinking about boys. They are very distracting. They'll always be there... Knowledge is power."
