Katy Perry pulls out of People's Choice Awards

Katy Perry has pulled out of Wednesday's (11Jan12) People's Choice Awards - her first planned public appearance since her split from Russell Brand.

Russell Brand filed for divorce from the pop star on 30 December (11) following weeks of speculation about the state of their relationship.

It was announced last week (begs02Jan12) that Katy Perry would be among the guests at the prizegiving in Hollywood, and she subsequently broke her silence following her marriage breakdown, telling fans on Twitter.com, "I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again."

But now the I Kissed a Girl hitmaker has pulled out of her red carpet appearance on Wednesday.

In a post on her Twitter page, she writes, "Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!"

Katy Perry is one of the frontrunners at the People's Choice Awards - she garnered seven nominations when the shortlist was announced in November (11).
