One of Katy Perry's most intimate gigs in recent years will air on TV on Friday night (25Oct13).

The pop superstar celebrated the release of her new album Prism on Tuesday (22Oct13) by performing an hour-long set of new tracks at the new iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles.

The concert was streamed on Yahoo.com and broadcast on Clear Channel radio stations, and it will air in its entirety on the CW network on Friday.

Perry was backed by a five-piece band for the stripped-down show, during which she chatted to fans about the inspiration behind songs on her new album.

The singer, who was dealing with her 2011 divorce from comedian Russell Brand during the creative process, said, "My head was in a dark place. I thought I was gonna make an acoustic record with depressive shades (but) all the light hit me and influenced shades, I feel very prismatic."

She also revealed that one new track, Dark Horse, was inspired by cult 1990s movie The Craft, and she wrote another, Unconditionally, after an eye-opening UNICEF trip to Madagascar.

When one fan asked her which famous people she would invite to a dinner party, Perry replied, "Freddie Mercury and Cher", and she revealed the most famous person she has on speed dial is Miley Cyrus.

The singer also told the audience that she's planning a tattoo to mark the release of her new album and was recently left starstruck over tea with Stevie Nicks.
