Katie Holmes to cameo in How I Met Your Mother

Katie Holmes is going back to her TV roots for a cameo in hit comedy show How I Met Your Mother.

Tom Cruise's wife, who rose to fame on TV series Dawson's Creek, will play the woman in the "slutty pumpkin" costume, who was introduced to fans of the show six seasons ago.

The faceless character made her debut at a Halloween party in the first season of the series - and she became the object of Josh Radnor's character Ted Mosby's affections.

Every year since, the programme has shown Ted eagerly waiting at the same party in the hope the mystery lady will be there - and now it appears the character will be unmasked - as Holmes.

Show creator Craig Thomas says, "Katie is a lovely and talented actress, which is why we've saved for her perhaps the most classily named character in our show’s history."
