Kate Hudson's 13-year-old son Ryder is planning to follow in his mum's footsteps and study acting at New York University.

The Almost Famous star's boy with her rocker ex-husband Chris Robinson is already exploring his college options, and he is determined to enroll in NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

"Ryder likes to sing, (but) he's more into acting," his mother shared on breakfast show Good Morning America. "Ryder's already planning his application to New York University. He's like, 'I'm gonna go to New York and go to Tisch'. I was like, 'OK... hold on a second!'"

Ryder's brother Bingham also has his sights locked on a career in entertainment, but he's more musical, like his father, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy.

"Bing is quite the drummer at five years old, which is pretty amazing to watch," Kate smiled. "Since he was literally a year old, he has just drummed, and he has not stopped. He sings (too)."

Unlike some celebrity parents, Kate has no problem with her children pursuing careers in the limelight, because she is the offspring of actors Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, while her father figure since she was a kid has been her mum's longtime partner, Kurt Russell.

Kate, whose brothers Oliver Hudson and Wyatt Russell are also actors, added, "You realize, I guess, when you have kids, that there's certain things that are just in the genes, and you just make it all about the work, keep them focused on working on their craft."
