Karen Elson channelled her insecurities about being the ex-wife of rocker Jack White into her new album.

The model and musician has just unveiled her second record, Double Roses, to the world, seven years after dropping her debut effort The Ghost Who Walks, which she recorded with help from The White Stripes rocker White. The couple were married from 2005 to 2013, and Elson, 38, used this experience as inspiration while penning her new emotional material.

“I am still learning to just own this as well. I think this comes to my own insecurities, being a model, being married to a famous rock star so to speak, the ex-wife of,” she sighed to musician Father John Misty during a chat for Interview magazine. “When I listen to this record while I'm playing it, as I've been playing a few shows recently, I feel the power... These are my songs that I've really, honestly, laboured long and hard over and poured my almost shameful and private thoughts out into.”

Misty, real name Josh Tillman, also opened up about his insecurities and admitted he still feels anxious as a songwriter. He recently dropped a new album, Pure Comedy, and Elson couldn't hide how much of a fan she was of his latest songs, revealing they've brought her to tears.

“Oh my God, it's gorgeous,” she gushed. “I'm just going to say it's your Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, I've got to say that... There are so many beautiful tender and hilarious moments. It made me cry; I'm not joking either."
