Kanye West wins Stronger lawsuit

Written by . Published: August 24 2012

Kanye West has emerged victorious in a legal battle over his hit track Stronger after a judge dismissed claims he copied his lyrics from another song.

Producer Vincent Peters - also known as Vince P - sued the hip-hop star in 2010, alleging the 2007 single was similar to his own track of the same name.

The lawsuit was heard at the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and Judge Diane Wood dismissed the case against West on Monday (20Aug12), according to music website Allhiphop.com.

Wood ruled both songs quoted 19th century German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, but it doesn't qualify as copyright infringement.

She explains, "Although the fact that both songs quote from a 19th century German philosopher might, at first blush, seem to be an unusual coincidence, West correctly notes that the aphorism has been repeatedly invoked in song lyrics over the past century... We are not persuaded that the similarities alleged by Vince P rise to the level of copyright infringement."
