Justin Timberlake is slowly starting to realise just how much his parents' divorce has affected him - 26 years after they split.
The SexyBack star's mum, Lynn, and father, Randall, parted ways in 1985, when Timberlake was just three years old.
But the singer/actor, who has romanced Britney Spears, Cameron Diaz and Jessica Biel, admits he had no idea how much the break-up had really impacted him until recently - as he started to recognise the similarities between his relationship mistakes and that of his parents'.
He tells Elle magazine, "My parents divorced when I was three. I'm humbly and honestly finding out that I have a lot of issues with that...
"I'm finding more and more that... I'm going to break the chain because that's what you want to do, break the chain of your parents. But at some point, it's in your blood and you have a thing that happens and you're like, 'Holy s**t, my parents did that.' And I read something somewhere where the first three years of a child's life are the most important for the parents and the child's connection, and right around there, as soon as my parents had me, they divorced."
However, Timberlake insists he was never short of love and attention as his mum and dad soon remarried.
He says, "But at the age of five, I did see a man come into my life, my stepfather, and show me the value of stepping in and really being a man and falling in love with a woman, and bearing the responsibility of being a father figure to her son... All of my parents are great."
