Justin Bieber strikes plea deal in dangerous driving case
Justin Bieber has avoided jail time by striking a plea deal with prosecutors over a dangerous driving and assault incident last year (Aug14).
The Baby hitmaker was driving an all-terrain vehicle, with his then-girlfriend Selena Gomez as a passenger, when he crashed into the minivan of a photographer in Bieber's native Ontario, Canada.
The collision led to an altercation with the paparazzo, and Bieber
was subsequently charged with simple assault, careless driving, and
dangerous driving.
A lawyer for Bieber tells CBC News that the dangerous driving
charge was dropped, but he pleaded guilty to the other two charges
on Thursday (04Jun15), when he appeared before a Canadian judge via
video calling service Skype.
Bieber was fined $750 for the careless driving charge, but escaped
jail time and was not placed on probation.
According to Entertainment Tonight Canada, Justice Kathryn McKerlie
told Bieber, "The lesson in all of this is to think before you act
in the future."
The paparazzo involved in the clash previously pleaded guilty to
trespassing.
