Rock Of Ages star Julianne Hough refused to let survival expert Bear Grylls kill a snake for their dinner during an African TV adventure.

The actress and singer signed up to join the Brit for the new season of his show Running Wild With Bear Grylls, and while she agreed to drink water squeezed from elephant dung and nibbled on striped policeman caterpillars for energy during her trek, there was no way she was eating a snake.

"I'm not a big fan of big snakes and we had to, like, crawl next to it," she tells Access Hollywood Live, but when her adventure companion suggested they should kill and eat it, she urged him to reconsider.

"I wouldn't let him kill it because I was like, 'There's no chance that I'm eating this'. So the deal was that he could let it go but I had to touch the tail."

She also struggled to keep the caterpillars down: "I decided to, like, break the caterpillar first, so it wouldn't be like a gusher in your mouth... It took me forever. It's a good thing they (editors) cut that together because it was like 45 minutes of me trying to eat it!"

Hough's adventure with Bear Grylls will air on 2 August (16).
