Duhamel, who won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor on All My Children in 2002, says, "I heard... that it was going off the air and I was sad about that. It has been 41 years and that's the show that gave me my opportunity.

"A lot of people aren't gonna get that same chance now because the daytime drama itself is just kinda going away... so I just called up the casting director and asked her if I could come back and do something... as sort of a thank you."

Duhamel filmed his comeback episodes last week (ends19Jun11) and the star admits it was fun being back on set.

He adds, "It was a great three years and I was really green when I first started."

All My Children will end in September (11).
