Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has landed his first honor as a director - he's been named the Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year at the 2013 CinemaCon industry event.

The Inception star premiered his directorial debut, Don Jon's Addiction, at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in January (13) and it proved to be a hit with fans and critics alike, landing a distribution deal from Relativity Media bosses.

Now Gordon-Levitt will be feted for his newfound talents at the CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards in Las Vegas on 18 April (13).

Convention executive Mitch Neuhauser says, "Having already been embraced by moviegoers and critics alike with his diverse list of acting credits, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is sure to establish himself as one of the most exciting new directors in movies today with the release of his directorial debut Don Jon's Addiction."

Don Jon's Addiction, starring Gordon-Levitt as a porn-obsessed womaniser who attempts to start a meaningful relationship with a character played by Scarlett Johansson, is set for a summer (13) release.
