Jolie granted permission to visit refugees in Turkey

Angelina Jolie has won the approval of Turkish officials to visit refugees who have fled from Syria to escape violent uprisings.

The Hollywood humanitarian, a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, recently lodged her request with Turkey's Foreign Ministry, and spokesman Selcuk Unal revealed on Wednesday (15Jun11) that they had given Jolie the green light to proceed with her trip.

The actress, who will reportedly land in the country on Friday (17Jun11), plans to stop by refugee camps in southern Turkey.

Thousands of Syrians have been forced to leave their homeland in recent weeks following outbreaks of violence in protest to the government's crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrations.

Jolie is currently in Malta with her longterm boyfriend Brad Pitt and their six kids. The family will spend the summer there while Pitt shoots new zombie movie World War Z on location.
