JOHNNY MARR LEARNED ABOUT OSCARS NOD FROM A FAN

Former The Smiths star Johnny Marr found out he'd received an Oscars nomination for his work on Inception from a fan on Twitter.com.

The guitarist teamed up with Hans Zimmer to work on the music for the sci-fi thriller, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Caine and Marion Cotillard.

They landed a Best Original Score Oscar nod, and Marr admits he finds it hard to believe he has been tipped for the coveted award.

He tells Britain's Sunday Mail, "When one of my fans congratulated me on Twitter I didn't know what they were talking about. I thought, 'I better make a couple of calls to check this out.'

"I thought the message was for somebody else. If you'd told me I'd one day be nominated for an Oscar I'd have laughed you out of the room."
