John Mayer opens up about Katy Perry romance
John Mayer has high hopes for his blossoming romance with Katy Perry, insisting his relationship with the pop star is "something very human".
The Daughters hitmaker has been linked to Katy Perry since last summer (12), but it wasn't until December (12) that they made their first red carpet appearance together.
Now John Mayer has finally confirmed the pair is dating, and he is
adamant his love for Katy Perry feels different from his previous
relationships with stars such as Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston
and Taylor Swift.
In an interview on news show Sunday Morning, which aired this
weekend (10Feb13), he explains, "I don't feel like I'm in a
celebrity relationship. I don't feel it for the first time of my
life... I really don't. I'm not even in a high-profile
(relationship)... I know it's high-profile, but it's hard to
explain. It doesn't feel that way to me and it's great and I'm
glad... I'm saying for me, it feels like it's something very
human."
During the chat, John Mayer also admitted to acting like a "jerk"
in the past by candidly discussing intimate details about his sex
life with the media, even famously describing ex-girlfriend Jessica
Simpson as "sexual napalm" - but he insists he never set out to be
a womaniser and the thought of possessing such a reputation brings
him to tears.
He says, "It would have been a great Rolling Stone interview if I
had said, 'Here's what's going on in my life: I had a plan for
myself; I have no idea where I am with this. I never saw it coming
where I would be thought of as an infamous Lothario; I didn't see
any of this coming. I'm hugely uncomfortable with it and I wanna
cry.'"
However, John Mayer claims he's grown up a lot since struggling
through vocal problems which threatened to end his career, and now
he's finally acting his age: "I wish that I grew up a year every
year of my life and I didn't. I stopped for a certain period of
time and I was 24 for six years or whatever, and then the log jam
cleared and I'm dead on for 35."
His newfound maturity and burgeoning love life with Katy Perry has
given John Mayer a rosy outlook for the future - and he hopes that
includes a trip to the altar.
Asked if he could see himself settling down and getting married, he
replies, "I mean, I'm still the kid from Connecticut. That's what
we do."
