John Mayer dedicates Seoul gig to ferry disaster victims

Written by . Published: May 07 2014

Singer/songwriter John Mayer dedicated his Seoul concert in South Korea on Tuesday night (06May14) to the victims of the country's April (14) ferry disaster.

The Daughters singer wore a yellow ribbon as a tribute to the 268 people who perished in the tragedy throughout his performance and also announced that he would be donating the night's merchandise sales to relief aid.

Mayer's gig was the first major entertainment event to take place in South Korea since the events of 16 April (14) - concerts, festivals, album launches and film premieres were scrapped as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives, many of them teenagers.

The singer kicked off his show by thanking fans for allowing the gig to proceed, stating that he hoped the music would help those still recovering from the tragedy heal.

More than 20 students on board the ferry when it sank are still missing.
