John Legend received parenting tips from Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling helped his La La Land co-star John Legend prepare for fatherhood by sharing some friendly advice about parenting.

The Notebook hunk welcomed his second child, daughter Amada, with his girlfriend Eva Mendes in late April (16), just days after John and his wife Chrissy Teigen became first-time parents to little girl Luna.

The baby news gave Ryan and singer-turned-actor John something to bond over as they worked on the new movie musical in the summer of 2015.

"Amada and Luna were both born in April. We talked about it (fatherhood)," the 37-year-old star told Entertainment Tonight. "We had just announced that we were pregnant right around when we were filming the movie, so... he definitely kind of shared how joyous it is to be a new father and gave me something to look forward to."

John also reveals he was a little apprehensive about starring alongside Ryan, because he didn't want to mess up in front of someone he has admired for so long.

"I've been a fan of his work as a film actor for such a long time, so I was excited to work with him," he explained. "I was just hoping that he didn't think I brought him down too much, knowing that he's been doing this for a long time and I haven't."

In fact, Ryan had to learn some of John's trade as a piano player for his role as a jazz musician in the movie, while the singer had to get familiar with a guitar for his part.

"That made me feel a little bit more comfortable, that he was learning something new too and had that sense of... the struggle of a new thing," John said. "I was really impressed with him playing the piano, and I thought he was doing a really good job."

And despite forming a friendship with Ryan during the shoot, John admits their daughters have yet to get together for a play date as they are still very young.

"She hasn't had a play date with anybody," he confessed. "You can barely say she's had it with Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker's boy, Hank. But Hank is quite a bit older than her by a few months, so she hasn't really had a genuine play date with anyone her age just yet."
