A gig-goer has been found guilty of murder for killing a fellow reveller at a Jessie J show in London in April (12).

Graphic designer Ashley Charles was convicted of attacking 37-year-old Phillip Sherriff with a bottle shortly after the British singer stepped off stage at Pulse nightclub in the British capital. The father-of-two died from his wounds in hospital four days later.

Charles, 26, denied the murder charge and insisted he acted in self-defense after the two men shared a heated exchange at the bar.

He was convicted of the killing following a trial at London's Old Bailey, and Judge Paul Worsley told him, "This is a tragic case... He was a decent man... You clearly became annoyed at what you perceived was the conduct of Mr Sherriff and lost your temper when he may have pushed against you at the bar."

Charles has been ordered to spend a minimum of 14 years behind bars.

The Price Tag hitmaker previously paid tribute to the victim after learning of his death, writing in a post on Twitter, "I am lost for words. All I can say is my thoughts, love and respects are with the family and children of the man who attended the Blackberry gig last week who sadly lost his life this morning. So sad..."
