Jennifer Lopez broke down in tears when she was presented with a special honour at the Univision Network's Premios Juventud Awards in Miami, Florida on Thursday (18Jul13).
The superstar was feted with the World Icon trophy at the city's Bank United Center, and was visibly moved when the crowd gave her a rousing standing ovation for several minutes.
Accepting the award with a speech in Spanish, the Latina beauty told her fans, "I feel very fortunate to be here tonight. What I have always wanted to do with my life is to create, sing, dance, act and entertain; and be a good person.
"I love what I do. I'm an artist. And I know that being a role model to my community means to be responsible for my actions. I too am human, and I make mistakes. But I promise you that when I fall, I get up again. When I make a mistake, I learn the lesson and I am ready to confront the next challenge. I accept this award with a lot of humility and I am enormously grateful."
Lopez had opened the show with a performance of her hits On the Floor and Live It Up alongside rapper Pitbull, while her ex-husband Marc Anthony watched from the audience. She went on to win the Actress Who Steals the Screen trophy later in the ceremony.
Other winners at the prizegiving included singer Prince Royce, who picked up three awards - for Catchiest Song, Voice of the Moment and Best Collaboration.
Pitbull won Urban Artist and Kevin Ortiz went home with the Newcomer Award.
